Winter Water Getaways: Refreshing Weekend Ideas

Winter weather tends to cause lots of restlessness due to being cooped up indoors during the cold weather. Every now and then, fresh air is nice to ease the soul and relax the mind. While it might be entirely too cold for swimming, there are still lots of fun water related activities and getaways to engage in. From Caribbean cruises to ice fishing, there is no shortage of activities on the water during the cold, dreary days of winter.

Relaxing on a Private Yacht

Yachts are a luxurious way to spend time away from home. Rather than stay in a hotel, one could stay out on the water. There are few things that are much more refreshing than walking onto the deck in the early morning hours with a hot cup of coffee, breathing in the fresh, cool marine air. A large yacht dealer will generally be located close to large bodies of water, which is quite convenient for curious potential buyers. Yachts come in all sorts of sizes; whether it’s needed for a quiet romantic night on the lake or a fun filled family day in the bay, they’re quite accommodating.

Ice Fishing

Ice fishing can be a lot of fun, especially for those who genuinely enjoy the colder weather. With special sonar devices, schools of fish beneath the ice can be located with ease. This takes a lot of the guess work out of drilling the fishing holes, and will keep a fisherman from going home empty handed. There is a wide variety of gear available to ice fishermen, including heated shelters and subzero body gear, to stay safe during fishing trips.

Lighthouse Road Trip

One of the most beautiful views of the ocean is obtained from the top of a lighthouse. While the climb to the top can be terrifying for some, the view is very well worth it! Lots of lighthouses have been converted into museums after being retired, increasing the value of the visit. Several popular lighthouses can be mapped out for an enriching weekend road trip, and it is very family friendly.

Water related activities do not have to involve warm water or swimming, and they can be just as much fun in cold weather. Another benefit to taking part in these activities during off season is that there will be fewer tourists and vacationers. Sometimes, things are far more enjoyable when the crowds die down.
