I Learned to Play Dress Up!

Last week, I learned how to play dress up. Mommy was surfing for cooking games that time when I approached her. My attention was caught by the colorful website and some princess images from the games.

At first I saw mommy playing cooking games, but when I ask her if I can try it, it seemed hard for me to play. I asked mommy if I can play the princesses instead.

At the start of the game, it was hard for me since I need to drag the clothes I picked to be worn by the princess. But as soon as I get the hang of it, it was ‘easy-peasy’. ^_^ And I can’t stop playing!

I was so engrossed on what I was doing, I didn’t notice mommy taking some pictures.

You’ve got oodles of things to do and only a little time to do them in. On top of all this, you know you should be spending time with your children. But how do you get your errands complete and still have time for your kids? Well, here are five ways to achieve this most challenging task.

House Work – Folding clothes, doing the dishes, dusting, and vacuuming; all those mind-numbing chores that everyone hates. Make it into a game. Have your kids help you out around the house. They can make the bed while you talk about what happened at school, or help you do the dishes while chatting about the latest events in their favorite cartoon. The ‘vacuum monster’ can give them motivation to pick up the toys sprinkled across the floor, and little ones love dusting tables ‘whistling while they work’. (A la Cinderella or Snow White!)
Yard Work – Pulling weeds is great fun for children, especially when Mom is right there frolicking in the dirt with them. All kids love to get filthy, and yard work is a great opportunity for them to draw out their sand buckets and wagons and get to work. Watering the grass on a hot summer day can easily be changed into a trip to the backyard water park. Not only does your yard stay green, but your children get exercise too.
Grocery Shopping – You’ve got to pick up some stuff to prepare for dinner, but why not take this occasion to teach your children? A grocery store is an unlimited learning environment. Younger kids can review their colors and names of fruit, older kids can weigh vegetables and choose what sale items are a good deal. While they’re learning, you are having quality time and accomplishing something.
Cooking – Even the youngest tots can help Mom in the kitchen. They can rinse the vegetables, shred the lettuce, and verify the measuring cups are filled all the way. Older kids can be trained how to cut up a chicken, how to know when the potatoes are done, and how to decorate a cake. Whatever way you accomplish it; kids need to know how to cook.
Exercise – This may seem like a solo activity, but it doesn’t have to be. Have your child ride his tricycle as you jog and he’ll have no problem keeping pace. Pull your toddler in a wagon and your legs will be toned quickly. Even aerobics can turn out to be playtime if you add some amusing moves and silly music.

Whatever errands or chores you have to do, try to include your children. Don’t just drag them along. They will be adults soon and they need to learn the things that you know. It’s never too soon to get underway. The more you chat with your kids, the healthier your relationship with them will be. So have fun, hang out, and get stuff accomplished.

A Friend’s Music Career

The other day, I accidentally meet one of my high school friends at the mall. I heard him looking for a usb audio midi interface as I went to him and greeted him. We only interacted for a couple of minutes or so because we (hubby, Little Zoie, and me) are still going in the mall’s amusement parks.

I remember that his group of friends are forming a band, they love music back then and we love hearing them perform on school programs. In our a little catching minutes, I asked how was the band now, he said they already have separated and his performing out of the country. He said he’s performing in cruise ships. Cool job, right? ^_^

Like what I’ve said, I only get to ask a few catching up questions, but I bid him good luck on his music career.

I Miss My Pink Sunglasses

This pink sunglasses was my first sunglasses. This was given to me by Ninang Ysa on my second birthday. I haven’t seen this for quite a while now, I can’t remember if me or mommy replaced it somewhere in Lola Mommy’s house or my Lola Mama’s house. Even though mommy bought me a new pair, a black Barbie sunglasses, I still get to miss this one.

By the way, this picture was taken last March 2010 on my mom’s company summer outing in a beach at Punta Fuego, Nasugbu, Batangas. We just arrived and I just woke up when mom took the shot. I was not fond of traveling more than 4 hours in a bus that time, so I can’t help but throw up along the trip. Good thing mommy and daddy are ready, they brought a lot of small plastic bags that time. ^_^ But as for the whole day, I had so much fun!

The Masked Toddler

Two Sundays ago, we went to attend Sunday service at Victory Alabang. There are times when Little Zoie will agree to stay at the Sunday school the church are offering to kids, sometimes she won’t.

They do a lot of things at Sunday school. They sing, dance, make artworks like coloring, and make stuff. That Sunday, they color and made masks. Here’s what she made:

Hmmm… me and hubby can’t figure out what animal is it. ^_^

What are Cuff Links?

I saw one of these before but I didn’t know what its called until last Christmas. ^_^

Last Christmas in hubby’s workplace, they also have the tradition of exchanging gifts, and the person whom hubby gave a to asked for a cuff link.

I didn’t know that it is like a small button (in different shapes), stylish ones, which are mostly used in formal clothes to fasten like a button. Men and women use it, it can be used on a cuff of women’s dresses or blouses or men’s long sleeves cuffs.

If you will look for it in department stores, just like we did, you will find that there are plenty of designs to choose from. They have transit token cufflinks, silver plated cufflinks, jewelry cufflinks, and cufflinks can also be customized. Some cufflinks are expensive and since their exchanging gift budget is just an affordable amount, we didn’t buy the expensive links just the one which are already stylish but not expensive.

As I read BabyCenter.com’s Discipline Style, I remembered trying different discipline styles until I find the effective one for my toddler, Little Zoie.

Below is a chart of Discipline Styles I got from Babycenter.com.

As I refer to the chart, I’ve been using both Encouragement and Behavior-modification discipline styles for my toddler. It is effective for me and Zoie because she likes to be encourage, praise, and get rewards. So far, she’s been growing up with obedience and respect to people around her.

As her mom, I REALLY AM PROUD! ’Love you, my Little Zoie! ♥

How Fetal Doppler Works?

Have you seen a fetal doppler?

Fetal doppler is a device used to detect and measure fetal heart rate of the baby inside the mother’s womb. It is only one of the types a fetal heart monitoring has, there are quite a few more. Other types are fetoscope, electronic fetal monitoring, internal fetal monitoring, and telemetry monitoring.

So how does fetal doppler works? It is said, according to fetaldopplerfacts.org, to measure fetal heart rate by emitting and receiving continuous ultrasonic sound waves and emitting the change or shift in pitch frequency of these sound waves. This is called the Doppler Effects.

I want to share what fetal doppler is because I was inspired to post one. I accompany a close friend last week to her OB-GYNE for her monthly pregnancy checkup. And I got curious how fetal doppler works.
